Sisters Amber and Aurora were pulled from a new public shelter in Taichung City, Taiwan. The rescuer was invited for a talk regarding animal welfare and care and toured the facility while she was there. The rescuer noticed Amber and Aurora (who were both weak and malnourished at the time) huddled together in a corner of one of the rooms with other dogs. The rescuer saw the other two more dominant dogs took over all the food given to all four of them (sad fate of crowded shelter animals in Taiwan), but the sisters got nothing.
The rescuer asked if the shelter could separate the sisters from the other dogs. Sadly, due to the new law that abolished euthanasia in public shelters, the shelters became extremely overcrowded. Their new policy is that, if the dogs are friendly, the shelter staff would spay/neuter these dogs and release them back to the streets (TNR) after they are 6 months old. The rescuer felt the pain of this situation as she had seen way too many puppies and dogs released back on the streets and suffered from a range of terrible outcomes. After the rescuer finished her talk at the shelter, she offered to take the sisters with her.
Amber and Aurora are really friendly, and get along with people and dogs. They will do well with experienced or first time dog owners. As we mentioned earlier, because they barely got any food in shelter, they both tend to eat extremely fast and would gorge their food (but they do not show any signs of food or resource guarding). With patience and training, their eating habits can be rehabilitated with time. This is not uncommon amongst shelter or stray dogs, which is understandable.
The sisters both are super adorable and love to seek affection from people. As puppies, they are still quite active. Their current foster family has a fenced yard, and they are used to doing their business outside in the yard. They enjoy their playtime together!!!!! It would be truly wonderful if the bonded sisters can be adopted together, but it is ok to have them be adopted separately.
Amber and Aurora are waiting patiently for their forever home!
