When the rescuer found Rita and Tess, they both already had two separate litters of puppies.  Tess had 4 and Rita had 6.  It was the same place that other 6 months old puppies were found and rescued.  Because of the sheer amount of puppies needed to be rescued (total of 15 including Rita and Tess), the rescuer had to make the decisions of taking the 5 puppies that were about 6 months old (they were without their mother) as they were very frail and sick.  The rescuer was hoping to find foster homes for these 5 before she could come back for the rest (Rita, Tess and their puppies).
The rescue went back after 4 days of the initial rescue to check on Rita, Tess and their pups. The environment they stayed at was not ideal – it was next to a farm area and very isolated.  Sanitation was pretty bad at the time.  Even though Rita and Tess were a bit afraid of people, they seemed to trust the rescuer and came to ask for help.  The rescuer noticed Rita had injuries on her skinny body, and two of her puppies went missing.  Tess also took the rescuer to the field and found one of her puppies had died from injuries.  Two of Tess puppies also disappeared with the remaining puppy injured.  No one knew what had happened, not even the local farmers who would check on the dogs from time to time.  The rescuers took the remaining puppies first and came back for Rita and Tess a couple of days later even though the rescuer did not have enough space to foster them all.  She did not want to see more damages done to them, especially notificing the injuries suffered by the dogs seemed to be caused by humans (sharp objects).
After the dogs were rescued, we realized Rita and Tess get along well, like sisters, and they rely on each other for support.  The vet estimated both are about 1 year old, barely out of puppyhood themselves.  Rita is very friendly and gentle. Tess likes people too but she gets nervous in the beginning, and takes time to warm to people.  With the care and love from their rescuer, both of them are now used to home environment and enjoy being with others.  It seemed like they might have a home before as they are very used to being inside.  It’s very sad they were abandoned.  After two months of rehabilitation, these two lovely girls are ready to find a forever home of their own.  Would you like to give Rita a chance to be your family member?
